I want to buy a new PC and/or laptop and I was wondering whether the latest ATI cards (ATI Radeon HD 5000 and 4000 Series) worked great on Ubuntu? Especially using the free/open source drivers?

4xxx cards work great out of the box, 5xxx with the restricted driver.
