Convincing or asking won’t lead to build a community. Jono will probably be the first to confirm that.
I doubt Canonical has resources to dedicate to this, for starters it’s not written in Python :)
If we want Shapado to be used, we need to use it more and make it known. This also means making it more social. Hooking up to Identi.ca and Gnu Social (when it’s out!) as well as other social online services such as Twitter and Facebook but most importantly to Launchpad using it’s API would be a huge step in automating that.
For now as the original question inidcates making sure Shapado is ak nown option and proposing it to any beginners would be the most urgent, immediate action. We also need more visible links for the bug tracker or simply a “Making Shapado better” for aspiring contributors.
Other more forward-looking actions would include having clear “install Shapado on your own server” instructions and commercial customization+ services. Look at how Status.net has done it.
I think we can and should have Ubuntu on both
